Simply Practice

God is with you. Always.

He is always right there for you to draw near to. Aways there to listen to you. Always there to show you wonders in the ordinary things of your day.

Literally any activity can become a designated time to be with God. A time to tell Him what is lovely about the day, what is difficult, quietly worship Him in song, or ask Him who we should pray for.

After a while of navigating our days in this way, it's even possible to be quietly present to Him in the midst of noise and chaos. There are a handful of Christian writers who have attested to this.

For our busy lives as parents, this is a very big deal.

Most of us can’t add more “quiet time” to help us grow spiritually. But we can practice – practice – conversing with Him during our day.

One of those who wrote about this was Frank Laubach. He journaled what he referred to as his "experiment" – his patient attempts, successes, and failures at this one thing: being present to God, more and more, throughout his day. After a while of sticking with it – just persisting in practicing – he had this to say:

The most important discovery of my whole life is that one can take just a little rough cabin and transform it into a palace just by flooding it with God. When one has spent many months in a little house like this in daily thoughts about God, the very entering of the house, the very sight of it as one approaches, starts associations which set the heart tingling and the mind flowing.

– Frank Laubach; June 1, 1930

We pray God's Spirit would constantly remind you: He is near. And that the space in and around your home would become a taste for you – a small sample – of His Kingdom.
