Unique Hospitality

You redeemed people for God by Your blood from every tribe and language and people and nation. You made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they will reign on the earth.
– Revelation 5:9b & 10

The end of Revelation describes God’s coming Kingdom as a garden-city: a renewed vision of the Garden of Eden, stewarded by God’s redeemed and diverse people.

The Hebrew Tabernacle and Temple had this same garden motif in its architecture – intentionally illustrating God's presence in the garden with His People.

I often muse over what this garden-city will be like.

Specifically, what will be the upshot of my family and your family – each with our own garden plot in which we steward and serve as priests?

The segments of that garden city will be as diverse as God’s people.

For instance, some of you glory in the beauty of the Alps. Your soul sings in that environment. For others, that place is the tropics. For others among us, it is the beauty of the desert or the lush plains which uniquely resonates with us.

Not only will the land itself resonate with who God made each of us to be, but how we each steward it will be a profound expression of who God made us to be.

In that Kingdom I am anxious to visit each of you. To be hosted in the environment you steward and the sanctuary where you serve as priest.

Your stewardship will delight anyone who is invited to experience it. They will go away praising God for what they experienced – an experience which, because they do not have your personality, your heritage, your nationality, your brokenness (now healed), or your particular walk with God – they never would have imagined were it not for you.

But this is also our task right now.
This is precisely what Christian hospitality is intended to be.

Your home can be a marvelously unique oasis of God’s Kingdom. Your family and your home is intended to be an expression of who God made you to be. And a glimpse of what you will create as a steward and priest in the coming fullness of His Kingdom.

Take time to daydream with God – on your own or with your spouse: What do you long to create, redeem, or cultivate as you steward God's future Kingdom?

Let God's Kingdom capture your imagination. His resurrection truly did announce God's Kingdom come – bringing hope of new life and victory right now! Begin your priestly calling where you are today.
